MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Amcom Software, Inc., today announced that Gustavus Adolphus College has completed the implementation of its Amcom enhanced 911 (E911) solution, raising the level of safety across its 340-acre campus for students, visitors, faculty, and staff. The St. Peter, Minn., college selected the Amcom E911 system due to its ability to provide the precise location of a 911 caller on campus—down to the building, floor, and room number—as well as its capacity to integrate with existing telecommunications infrastructure.

“We have a long-held tradition of providing the best care possible for our students and staff,” said Laura McCabe, Telecommunications Manager, Gustavus Adolphus College. “The Amcom E911 system enables us to ensure a new level of safety and visibility across campus that meets the high standards of today’s security-minded parents and students.”

The Amcom system encompasses the college’s 12 outdoor blue light emergency phones, as well as 2,900 phone numbers throughout all residence halls, offices, and athletic buildings. Although 911 calls are few and far between on campus, the Gustavus Adolphus College Campus Safety Office, along with the local public safety answering point (PSAP), now have the latest technology to speed response based on access to precise caller location information. Campus safety officers can also monitor calls in progress to provide the PSAP with additional assistance in tandem with the local police department’s efforts.

Gustavus Adolphus tests the Amcom E911 software weekly to ensure that the locations for campus emergency phones are properly identified. The system also integrates seamlessly with the application used to process phone number moves, adds, and changes to ensure all locations are properly identified as staff change offices, particularly at the beginning of a school year.

“Enhanced 911 software is critical to help safety officials provide life-saving communication for colleges and universities as they span hundreds of acres and have many multi-story buildings,” said Chris Heim, CEO, Amcom Software. “Progressive educational institutions such as Gustavus Adolphus College are looking to E911 solutions to keep all on their premises safe. We commend their efforts and believe all colleges and universities should keep safety at the forefront by truly understanding what happens when someone dials 911.”
