ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Securian Foundation awarded 60 grants during the first half of 2010 worth a total of $428,555 to Twin Cities civic, healthcare, education and arts organizations.

The largest grant, $60,000, went to the Regional Ballpark Initiative to help pay predevelopment costs for a new baseball park in the Lowertown section of downtown St. Paul for use by the Saint Paul Saints as well as youth, amateur and nonprofit leagues. The ballpark is expected to generate $10 million in annual direct economic impact in downtown St. Paul.

The Securian Foundation awarded a $30,000 grant to Twin Cities Public Television. TPT is a St. Paul-based statewide educational network that attracts 1.5 million viewers per month, including 200,000 children per week who watch TPT Kids.

A $30,000 grant went to the Gillette Children’s Hospital Foundation capital campaign for an expansion project that includes a pediatric intensive care unit.

$25,000 was awarded to the Minnesota Orchestra, which performs more than 200 concerts a year at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis and locations throughout the state. More than 400,000 people, including 80,000 children, attend the orchestra’s concerts annually.

Other organizations that received grants include:

  • Minnesota Private College Fund was awarded $21,000 to help fund student scholarships and general operations for Minnesota’s 17 four-year liberal arts colleges.
  • The Science Museum of Minnesota and LDA (formerly Learning Disability Association) Minnesota each received $15,000.
  • Minnesota Public Radio received a grant for $13,000.

The foundation, funded by Securian Financial Group, Inc., generally supports health and human services, educational, economic independence, or arts and cultural organizations. The board meets quarterly and makes allocations based on need, alignment with Securian Foundation goals, and funds available for distribution.
